How to THRIVE - Not Just Survive - During the Holidays
Words matter. Words shape perceptions. Perceptions shape intentions. Intentions shape just about everything.
This is the time of year we often hear people talking about surviving the holidays. We read about how to survive holiday parties, family gatherings, work parties - all sorts of festivities and events that we need to “push through” during this busy holiday season.
And let’s be honest, these survival guides are usually aimed at what we should not eat and drink over the holiday season— or how to “make up for” what we will consume. It’s kind of disheartening. It’s kind of discouraging. It definitely adds a layer of anxiety to what can already be a stressful season.
Aside from the fact that surviving is equated to deprivation or punishment - this is just a really harsh way to treat ourselves, to think about ourselves, to tackle the holiday season, and with respect to fueling our bodies. What are we surviving, really?
What if we flipped the script? What if we focused on thriving through the holidays?
Thrive by eating delicious food that makes you feel full and warm. Thrive by doing awesome workouts powered by that great food. Thrive by going for more walks outside in the fresh air. Thrive by enjoying the time you have with the people who mean the most in life.
What if we just enjoy these moments? What if we let the things we love to do—being with friends and family, eating well, moving with abandon and resting at the right times—take us through this holiday season?
What if we thrived?
Instead of this already stressful season becoming a time to deprive or punish ourselves, let’s focus on changing that. Make this holiday season enjoyable - let’s eat, drink, be merry (and move our bodies!)…THAT’S thriving. And isn’t that what we deserve?
